D#2, HW#3, Reflecting on Research

1. Recently I needed to get a summer job to save up money for the next school semester. I could only work for a couple of months because I do not live near the campus I attend school at. Seeing as I could only work a couple months I needed to conduct research to see what pay rates different places started out at and how many hours they would work me. I needed to find this out in order to make the most amount of money I could in such a short time. My challenge in question form would be, which job will I make the most money at in a 3 month time period?

2. The research involved mainly just me and was done by just me. The managers of all the different places I went to get applications from were also involved because they gave me the information that I needed for my research. They were also involved because if I were to get hired at their restaurant etc. I would be helping them out by adding another worker to their staff.

3. To explore answers to my problem I did two things; I drove to different places got applications and talked to the managers, and I also looked online at different websites to get information. I definately conducted most or my research by just talking to people. I took into consideration what some of the employees said about their job to get a feel for whether I would like working there or not.

4. After talking to numerous managers and employees, as well as using prior knowledge of working at different retail jobs, I determined that I would make more money waitressing in a 3 month period than I would working minimum wage in retail. After I decided I was going to work in the restraunt business I compared pay rates and hours I would be able to work and determined I would make more money working at HOOTERS than any other restraunt.

5. I may not have considered all options for a summer job, but I went to three different cities and got a ton of applications so I am very satisfied with the research that I did. Although I had to get a job relatively quickly I did not make a snap decision, I looked into a lot of different options. If I had more time I probably would have still ended up working at HOOTERS because it looked like a fun environment and the money isn't too bad. =P
